Trick-or-Streets is turning 160 Open Streets and plazas into free Halloween and fall gathering spaces throughout October. Alongside candy, games and live entertainment, this year’s program adds free Municipal Art Society walking tours for people more interested in neighborhood architecture than trick-or-treating.

  • Closest Queens pick: Austin Street Open Street in Forest Hills, Sunday, October 25, 2–5 p.m.
  • Brooklyn: Hillel Plaza at Flatbush Junction, Thursday, October 22, 2–6 p.m., with music, dancing and harvest festivities.
  • Staten Island: Water Street Open Street, Saturday, October 24, noon–5 p.m., with a costume contest, live music and face painting.
  • Manhattan: Canal Open Street and Division Plaza, Wednesday, October 28, 3–7 p.m.
  • Bronx: James Baldwin Plaza, Saturday, October 31, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
  • Plan your visit: Check NYC DOT’s neighborhood schedule for event details and the walking-tour listings before heading out. These are the signature gatherings, not the full program.

The Forest Hills afternoon is the easy one to put on the calendar near Rego Park. More broadly, this is a month of neighborhood-scale outings rather than one giant Halloween destination—and the walking tours give it an angle beyond children’s activities.
