Randall’s Island has a hands-on alternative to another walk through the park: Team RIVER, its community volunteer program. The work rotates among natural-area restoration, garden care, and park maintenance, and occasional volunteers are welcome—you don’t need to make a weekly commitment.

  • When: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., through December 9, 2026. The venue calendar lists October 21 and 28 as upcoming sessions; choose your date when registering.
  • Where: Randall’s Island Park. The specific meeting location is sent after registration, so don’t use the general park address as your meeting point.
  • Cost and signup: Free; registration is required through Eventbrite.
  • Who can join: Ages 11 and up. Under-18s need a guardian-signed waiver; under-16s must also have an adult with them.
  • Groups: More than five people should contact Volunteers@RandallsIsland.org before joining.
  • Accessibility or event questions: Email publicprograms@randallsisland.org.

The useful part is the low commitment: a single morning counts. Pick a future session, register, and wait for the meeting instructions—this is a way to help maintain a public green space, not just admire it.
