La Vaughn Belle’s first New York City solo exhibition is free at Pace University Art Gallery. For the Love of Fragile Things turns a large-scale painting installation into an exploration of Caribbean horizons, memory and the colonial histories of the U.S. Virgin Islands—not just the islands as scenery.

  • Where: 41 Park Row, Lower Manhattan; first floor, Spruce Street entrance.
  • Regular hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 12:30–4:30 p.m.; Thursdays until 7 p.m., including today under the published fall schedule.
  • Closing weekend: Regular viewing through Saturday, October 24, plus special Sunday, October 25 hours of 10 a.m.–2 p.m., according to the exhibition text.
  • Cost: Free and open to the public.
  • Before going: Hours can change, and school holidays are excluded. Confirm updates with the gallery at 212-346-1733, particularly for the special Sunday opening.

Belle developed the work during a seven-week residency at Pace, carrying the histories of St. Croix into a gallery in another island city. The September reception and artist talk have already passed; the useful opportunity now is the exhibition itself, with Thursday evening hours making it possible to visit after work.
