littleguys is a small macOS app for noticing when an agent has replied or needs permission, then answering from a menu-bar popover or chat window. Its 0.1.1 release was published October 11. It is a front end for existing agent tools, not a new model or an IDE.
- Access: Free and MIT-licensed, with a universal DMG for Apple silicon and Intel on macOS 13+. Install the release or use
brew install herval/tap/littleguys. The developer says the app talks directly to agents without a littleguys account or telemetry. Your agents’ existing model/subscription costs still apply. - Coding-agent interface: Claude Code and Codex connect through the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), a standard interface between an agent and its client. Have the chosen agent signed in and Node.js installed; select Add a gateway → Agents (ACP) and a working folder. The app downloads the adapter and starts its own process, communicating over standard input/output.
- Hermes and OpenClaw: These use connections to their existing backends rather than the same local ACP path. The Hermes guide describes profile threads, streaming replies and command approvals, with local and remote connection options. Remote Hermes exposes one profile per connection and has fewer features than the local integration.
- Scheduling is not uniform: Hermes and OpenClaw routines use their native schedulers. ACP routines run only while littleguys is open; missed runs are skipped rather than replayed later.
The catch: It does not attach to a Claude Code or Codex process already running in a terminal. It can resume past Claude sessions, but it is not a passive monitor for your current terminal tabs. There is also no terminal, worktree manager or git-review pane. That makes it worth considering for lightweight replies and approval handling—not as a replacement for a coding workspace.
This is a documentation-based capture, not a hands-on Mac test. The agent setup guide states the session and scheduling limits explicitly; evaluate those before giving a new client credentials and permission to approve commands.
