Spike Lee is teaming up with the Brooklyn Academy of Music, producer Nicholas Ma, and Clara Wu Tsai to launch “Playback: The Brooklyn Watch Party,” a new two-day festival taking over BAM on November 6 and 7. Friday night centers on music, poetry, film, and conversations inside the Howard Gilman Opera House, with celebrity guest curators still to be revealed; Saturday brings guest-curated film screenings with special appearances and a free afternoon block party with live music, local food vendors, and community activations. The weekend wraps with a special screening of Crooklyn, with Lee, Alfre Woodard, and additional guests appearing. Tickets go on sale in September, but the Saturday street fair is free to attend — and with more curators and programming announced in the coming months, this is one festival worth putting on the calendar now. Whether you’re a die-hard Lee fan, a film buff, or just someone who loves Brooklyn, it’s a new reason to mark November 6–7 at 30 Lafayette Ave.
