A free Sun Ra lecture-demo at The New School opens the week-long Festival of New Trumpet Music today, Reservoir’s free Chile-water-crisis performance piece runs uptown Thursday and Friday, Queens Night Market’s fall season opens Saturday, and San Gennaro’s 100th feast opens Thursday.   • New York Sings Yiddish: Passing the Torch to a New Generation — Thu 9/17, 7pm, SummerStage, Central Park (Rumsey Playfield): free — National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene’s big-tent night, the one rained out on June 22 and moved to this slot; musical director Zalmen Mlotek leading YidLife Crisis, Yair Keydar, Riki Rose and Daniella Rabbani.

Art & Performance

  • Reservoir — Thu 9/17 and Fri 9/18, 6:30pm, Barnard Movement Lab, 3009 Broadway (Morningside Heights): free, advance RSVP required, donations welcome — María José Contreras’s interdisciplinary piece blending lecture, theatre and embodied testimony on Santiago’s water supply: the retreating Andean glaciers and the dictatorship-era water code that privatized Chile’s water. Part of the Citizen Arts Festival.

Festivals & Markets

  • Queens Night Market — fall season opens Sat 9/19, 4pm–midnight, in the lot behind the New York Hall of Science, Flushing Meadows Corona Park: free entry — 100+ independent vendors selling food, merch and art, plus small-scale cultural performances; then every Saturday through Oct 31 (7 train to 111th St, four blocks south). Cash is still king at most stalls.
  • Feast of San Gennaro — opens Thu 9/17 and runs through Sun 9/27, Mulberry St between Canal and Houston plus the Hester and Grand blocks, Little Italy: free to walk the street — the 100th edition, eleven days of stalls, music and the Grand Procession. Thursday is already the week’s busiest night.
