On Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Randall’s Island Park hosts Long Island Sound Exploration Day: a free, family-friendly boat tour of the western Long Island Sound that gets you on the water with NYC Water Taxi, guided by local experts sharing stories of the Sound’s wildlife, ecology, history, and restoration along the Bronx and Queens shorelines. The route runs from Randall’s Island toward Throgs Neck and back, with interactive activities including a scavenger hunt and Long Island Sound trivia along the way. Organized by the Long Island Sound Partnership, coordinated through New York Sea Grant, and hosted in collaboration with the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, the outing is designed for everyone from longtime waterfront enthusiasts to first-timers — a welcoming way to connect with one of New York City’s most important waterways. Admission is free, but spots are limited and advance reservation is required via Eventbrite.
