Inwood Hill Park — 196 acres of Manhattan’s last old-growth forest at the island’s northern tip — has a loaded free calendar for the rest of August. The standout is Family Camping: a free overnight in Manhattan’s most forested park, run by the rangers, with another date on Sept 6 if you miss it. Everything else is show-up-and-go. Inwood is worth the trip uptown on its own — this lineup makes it an easy call for the last weekends of summer.
