Eight giant glowing seesaws have taken over Herald Square, turning one of Midtown’s busiest crossroads into a free interactive playground through Aug. 21. The installation, called Impulse, was created by Montreal-based designers Lateral Office and CS Design, and each oversized ride activates its own burst of music and vibrant lighting — a childhood favorite blown up to city scale. It runs daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Herald Square (Broadway between 35th and 36th streets), and it’s completely free on a first-come, first-served basis: no tickets, no reservations, just walk up and play. Impulse is a hit for all ages — kids ride during the day, and the glowing seesaws make a striking after-dark sight for grown-ups. It’s presented with the 34th Street Partnership, the org behind the neighborhood’s Bryant Park–adjacent programming.
