Want to paddle under the Manhattan skyline for free? Brooklyn Bridge Park’s free public kayaking program runs through Aug. 30 in the protected embayment off Pier 2, with sessions Wednesday and Thursday evenings (5–7 p.m.), Saturdays (10 a.m.–3 p.m.), and Sunday afternoons (noon–2:30 p.m.). Presented with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, it’s open to all levels — first-timers included — and provides life vests, boats, paddles, and on-site instruction at no cost. Kids under 18 must come with an adult guardian. Meet at the north entrance of Pier 2 (360 Furman St., Brooklyn) and look for the floating dock. Advanced registration is strongly recommended: it opens two weeks before each date and assigns 20-minute timed slots; walk-up spots occasionally open up but aren’t guaranteed, and holiday weekends may be skipped. It’s one of the most reliably free ways to get on the water in New York — no experience, no gear, and no wallet required.
