The Bronx River Alliance is throwing open its boat racks this Saturday for a free community paddle at Starlight Park. Paddlers get 30–40 minutes on the Bronx River in waves of about 15 — the listing’s pitch is to “see your neighborhood from the river’s perspective.”
- When: Saturday, Sept 5, 11 am–3 pm — waves launch at 11, noon, 1, and 2
- Where: Bronx River House, Starlight Park — 1490 Sheridan Blvd, Bronx
- Cost: free; first come, first served — no pre-registration
- How it works: sign a waiver, get a quick safety orientation, then paddle; staff and volunteers stay on the water (it is not a guided tour)
- Kids: welcome, but minors must come with an adult who signs their waiver
No experience or gear needed — boats and vests are provided. It’s a drop-in paddle on one of the city’s restored urban rivers: show up early, sign the waiver, and you’re on the water by the next wave. Free kayaking in the Bronx, no reservation required.
