Cunningham Park — a 358-acre flagship park in Queens, near the Nassau County line — has a surprisingly packed lineup of free events for the rest of August. Movies, concerts, archery, and a weekly run: all free, all outdoors, all walk-up.
- Movies Under the Stars — Aug 17 at 8:15 PM: Project Hail Mary (PG-13, the new Ryan Gosling sci-fi film). Aug 24 at 8:30 PM: Hoppers (2026 family film). Both on the lawn area.
- Just Sixties Concert — Aug 18, 6:45 PM. 1960s cover band at Union Turnpike & 196th Street.
- Queens Jazz Trail: The Brass Queens — Aug 20, 7:00 PM. A brass band concert in the parking lot.
- Magnetic Archery & Foam Axe Throwing — Aug 22, 1:00 PM. Urban Park Rangers teach you archery and axe throwing (foam axes, safe for all ages).
- NYRR Open Run — Every Sunday at 8:45 AM. Free weekly 5K-style group run, all paces welcome.
Most events happen at the main entrance near Union Turnpike and 196th Street or the park house. Parking is available, or take the Q46 or Q88 bus. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for movies and concerts. No tickets, no registration — just show up.
