Queens’ 506-acre Forest Park is running its free August events slate out of the George Seuffert, Sr. Bandshell, and this week’s lineup is a good reason to grab a lawn chair. The Summer Concert Series kicks off Thursday, August 6 with The Zoo (7:30–9:00 p.m.), followed by Tramps Like Us, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, on Thursday, August 13 — both free, both at the bandshell near the Woodhaven Boulevard entrance. Families get their own slot on Friday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., when the bandshell hosts a free kids’ production of Peter and the Wolf. It’s not just music: Beginner Yoga runs Saturdays August 8 and 15 at the Sobelsohn Basketball Court (10:00–11:00 a.m., free), Restoration Fridays volunteer gardening sessions meet at the Seuffert Bandshell parking lot Friday mornings, and Shape Up NYC intenSati fitness classes hit the park Wednesday evenings (several August sessions are canceled, so check the calendar). Everything is free, outdoors, and requires no registration — just show up. The park is reachable by the J/Z trains to 111th Street or the Q53/Q58 buses.
