The Brooklyn Children’s Museum — the nation’s first children’s museum, operating for over 125 years — has secured $420,000 in City Council funding to offer free field trips to approximately 42,000 students from Title I schools across New York City during the 2026–27 school year. The funding, championed by Council Speaker Julie Menin and Council Member Crystal Hudson, covers admission for hands-on exhibits in visual arts, STEM, world cultures, and civic engagement — all aligned with New York State learning standards. “For many students, a field trip is the first time they see themselves as an artist, a scientist, or as someone who belongs in a cultural institution,” said museum president and CEO Atiba T. Edwards. Title I schools can request trips through the museum’s school visit program; submissions should be made at least one month before the preferred visit date. With this expansion, the museum removes cost as a barrier for classrooms that need it most.
