The fall Brooklyn Bike Jumble takes over the plaza outside the Old Stone House on Saturday — the city’s long-running in-person bicycle swap, and one of the few places in New York where you can compare a dozen used bikes side by side in an afternoon instead of scrolling a marketplace app. Admission is free.

The pitch from the organizers is deliberately seasonal: gear up for commuting season, test out a new ride, buy the kids’ bikes before the holiday markup. That’s a fair summary of what a swap is good for. A used commuter bought in person, from someone who will answer questions about the drivetrain, costs a fraction of retail and skips the shipping-and-regret cycle entirely.
It’s also a one-day event, so it either fits your Saturday or it doesn’t. Worth keeping in mind that the spring edition typically returns in May — if you miss this one, that’s the next window.
