The Battle of Brooklyn was the largest battle of the American War for Independence — and on Saturday, August 22, you can watch it come to life in Prospect Park for the 250th anniversary. The reenactment is free, outdoors, and led by the Brigade of the American Revolution in period uniforms.

- Where: Prospect Park Long Meadow → procession down 3rd Street to the Old Stone House (enter at 3rd St, Garfield Pl, or Grand Army Plaza)
- Cost: FREE — RSVP recommended via Eventbrite
- What you’ll see: Marching reenactors in 1776 Continental and British uniforms, musket fire, and a tactical walk following the actual route the soldiers took
- After the reenactment: The Old Stone House hosts a commemoration of the Maryland 400 — the 1st Maryland Regiment soldiers who held the line so Washington’s army could escape
- Also in the park: A replica of the Battle Pass fortification and an exhibit on the role of Black people in the Battle of Brooklyn at Lefferts Historic House
The public viewing area is on the west side of the Long Meadow. Note: the reenactment includes loud sounds and smoke. Bring a blanket or low chair, and if you have kids, the Lefferts exhibits and the Old Stone House commemoration make it a full morning of living history.
